A short film poster is a method of marketing the film in a visual way. Having a film poster is conventional as it can sell your film to the target audience.

Film posters ususally have the same inforamtion on them inlcuding the name of the film, an image, director and producer, a short catchphrase and the production comany.

By creating a poster which is unique to the film the target audience can not also get excited but get an idea of what the film will be like (genre). If the film is a horror than the poster would typically have dark colours with a bold title and scary image. Likewise, an animated films poster will be bright, bold and with a cute image to attracted their target audience. Here are some examples:

Comparision

From the poster alone I believe that 'Logan' is a horror/thriller film. The image is very mysterious with the shadow not mirroring the man.

The poster follows many of the conventions including the title, an image, information about behind the scenes and even a website link.

As this film is a cartoon and the font of the title mimics the handwritting of a child I believe the film is aimed at children. The image of the child also indicates that the genre of the short is childrens.

This poster compared to 'Logan' is much more simplier, not using many editing technquies to appeal to their targer audience. They do however include any of the same information as 'Logan' including the title, an image, production company logo and some short text.
